Adding Spiral CFC's what do i need?

ok this is a newb question and I know, I already built my own hood over my 20H with 3 T8 15 watt bulbs and now im wondering if I can add one or 2 spiral 14 watt bulbs. What would i need to add the spiral bulbs? Obviously a bulb a socket, a power cord some sort of screws to screw in into my lid and what else, is that it?

if anyone has done this and has a schematic or website i could borrow that would be awesome!

awesome thanks thats exactly what i was looking for

the only thing is my hood design doesnt allow a sideways mount like yours on the side of the hood. Do stores carry L sockets i suppose? so i can mount it on the roof of the hood

That is a cool diy hood kornphlake!

I will probably make my 5.5 gallon hood like that too

For the the light socket though, is it just that black thing and and then an extension cord with a plug? Or is there a ballast or something.

Spiral CFC's contain their own ballast. So you only need what a normal incandescent bulb needs in terms of wiring. If you are ever in a thrift store, look for one of those ugly brass or whatever material lights that were designed to hold 3- 6 incandescent bulbs over a mirror. They are typically only a few bucks and once you remove the ugly shiny metal piece you have a harness for 3-5 sequentially wired spiral CFC bulbs. Put it in a more suitable reflector or housing like a gutter and put globs of silicone over all the connections and you have a cheap bright light for well under ten bucks ( not including bulbs). Do this at your own risk of course.

Edit: $1.39 Porcelain -

Home Depot has $1.97 ceramic sockets with an 'L' bracket and leads.
Like the ones in this photo. You would need to add a spacer or washers to get it away from the canopy a little. I have a box of power cords if you need one or two.

thanks, fordtrannyman i already got a mess of power chords though. IT was your hood that gave me this idea, it really is a lot easier than having the T'8s!
