diy challenge :)

Ok so I see these nifty lil breeder boxes ar ok under the Internet for like $25 dollars or so the issue is they are smaller then I would like as they are 1/2 a gallon of water. They pump water through the breeder box so it hangs on the outside of the tank... can someone come up with a diy of one??? I'll post a link of one that I'm talking about

I have the medium Marina box, and I don't much care for it. I use a water pump instead of air though, so it is hard to work in without making a mess. The water level comes almost to the top of the box. A good DIY, in my opinion, would have higher walls, leaving at least an inch or two of acrylic above the spillway so you can dip fingers, nets, etc. in there without raising the water level enough to cause a spill.

It would be easy enough to slap together four pieces of acrylic with some silicone. The trick would be a support system to hang it from the edge of the tank and constructing the spillway. I'll be interested to see if this thread generates any ideas

Silicone and acrylic don't work together well.

Dilution is the solution for the pollution.

Does it have to be on the outside of the tank? I find a sturdy one on the inside has lots of advantages. Hanging inside, the main filter does the work, temp and water parameters are steady with the main so that there is no extra equipment involved. It can be made as large as you want up to the main tank size as support is simple.
Very cheap and easy to sew up using the plastic mesh.

I have this finnex refuge on my 65g. It's about a gallon.

I have a thriving RCS colony in there right now. Have had a puffer(for QT), and 3 endlers in there. Both were temporary but it worked. Here is a pic.

If in doubt, add more plants!

Had a finnex refuge with a eheim 2211 with flow reduced. Intake from main tank so it acted like a hob.

Used it for two months tore it down. Went back to the lee breeder net. Easiest and most efficient way. Seperated my endler fry and kept them from being eaten. They also got to stay within the tank. It was like $6.

It does but it also takes up tank space. I'm trying to find options for one outside so it actually adds water volume instead of taking up water volume. The parameters and temp isn't going to be much different then that inside the sense water passes through and back into the tank.

Honestly, I would just do the Finnex box. It is almost a gallon. There are multiple configurations available. I saw one that comes with the air pump and a 10" FugeRay for $50 plus like $8 shipping. There are other options that come with the air pump and a 10" StingRay or a water pump and a 10" StingRay for under $50 with Prime shipping. I'm thinking about grabbing one to replace my Marina Medium box. But I can't imagine how much light a 10" FugeRay would pump into that little box!

I might grab one myself. But tbh my ideal hang on breeder box would have a lip around the outside and be something like a 6 deep by 6 wide by 10 long with like a 1/2 inch lip around it so if you reach in it wouldn't go all over the floor
