I have two setups almost indentical to those. My opinion is to get a good on/off valve. Also be sure the needle valve is rated to handle the pressure from the paintball tank. Home depot had some that are only rated for 100psi. I made the mistake of buying one of those, and ended up gassing my fish one night.
Bump: Heres a pic of mine with a better on/off valve, and attached brass bubble counter. Works great, and no issues in the 1 year I have had it running.
On/off valve was $30, needle valve and brass elbow $10, jbl brass bubble counter $20, and teflon tape $1.
