Nice DIY Fishtank Stand... =)

So I decided instead of dropping 400 bucks for a stand for my new fishtank, I decided that my boyfriend and I should build one! We're not done yet but I will walk you guys through the process so far...

I got my idea and general plans from-
http://www.arbreptiles.com/cages/75g_stand/index.shtml

So here is the first day- we cut almost all the wood we needed and I primered the ends- (we have a major problem with all the wood cracking around here)...

And also built the frames...

The second day we attached the supports and some other minor things...

and added the bottom and top...

Third day, we cut and added all the molding, panels, and other bits... Then I primered the whole thing in preperation for sanding and painting... ;D

It looks simple, but don't be deceived... It's been a lot of work!!! We still have three more pieces of molding to put on and we still have to make the doors... And the best part is that, so far, the whole project has cost me only about $80 bucks! (The stand is 6' long)

I'll keep updating as it progresses...

Very nice start. You are building it much like I just built my 36" stand. I made mine out of 2x4 and notched them like you did with the 4x4s. I liked this design because the weight is rested on the leg supports rather than bolts or screws like some of my other works.

I didn't skin mine though as I have a tank underneath. I would someday like to skin it but don't really understand how yet.

New updates... it's been WAY too hot to work on it so we were finally able to get some work done on it today...

After all the molding and primered...

Then we made the doors...

And primered those...

Now we have to straighten the doors and hang them... Then some filling, sanding, and finally painting! Then it will be all done!

Worked on it some more last night and today... Almost done!

First we router trimmed the doors...

And braced them (it helped straighten them out major)...

Then we tapped and filled all the nail holes, dents, etc... and then sanded A BUNCH...

Then painted it...

Now we just have to finish the doors and hang them and it will be all done!

very well done. looks professionally made! i wish i had the workspace to do something like this... ah the negatives to living in a condo.

Thumbs up from me. and i'm also jealous of your 115 gal tank...

question though.. how come you didn't go with a solid piece of plywood with molding for the doors and instead went with several pieces together? just for looks?

From adding the days together, it looks like about 7-8 full days of work...and $80!

Great job!
