new $3 brushed aluminum autodose fert canisters

so youve made a cool autodosing setup huh?

if youre anything like me you wouldnt want to use old waterbottles or spice jars to hold your fert mixtures. well you dont have to anymore.

i found these Venom Black Mamba energy drinks that come in super thick bottles, they are thick like a sapporo can and will not dent at all easily.

these are 500ml. perfect
i just used a wet sheet of 320 grit to get the paint off and get a good grain into the metal.

the one in the picture is half done. in person it looks a lot better than the pic. it will look nice and high tech when done. this is for you if youre the sort that wants everything under the stand to look impressive, these would look presentable next to your shiny new co2 cylinder and digital gizmos.

this took just a couple minutes.
these drinks are pretty new, but they are distributed through pepsi so i think they will be easily found all over soon.

Cool, I don't use ferts but have been thinking about it. I'm a bit lazy and happen to notice you say "autodose setup". lol. Any links to diy setups and ferts at affordable prices? Pics are a plus. I have about $50 -$70 burning a hole in my pocket and I'm thinking what I should do with it.

Anyways back to the subject. I would just use my sandblaster to get that paint off and powdercoat them for an even nicer custom look! ie:Ghost flames or candy paint with flakes! lol

Any chance of some ingredients of the energy drink leeching into the tank? I don't want any hyper fish! How do you clean them?

Can't wait to see what you do with them.

go to the equiptment section and look at the first sticky.
i think its titled Review of Auto dosing Methods.

there are about 10 different examples of how you could put together something cheaply to automate your fert dosing. some are pretty involved and complex and probably not worth the effort when there are easier ways. using a water pump or powerhead you could make a pretty good setup, but i the pump has to fit inside the container and it just wouldnt work with any kind of bottle, you need a jar so the pump can fit inside.

i use a Tom's Aqualifter. they are about 15 dollars. it looks like an air pump, it has intake/outflow hookups for airline. this way i just drill the cap on a bottle and pull the line through to the bottom of the container. a digital timer kicks on the pump for X amount of minutes every other day and it dispenses say 30 ml of macro ferts. the same can be done with dosing traces. this method is probably the easiest/ most fool proof. i use a brinks 7 day digital timer i bought at wal mart. it runs in 1 minute increments and can be set for different days/times ect.

i just like the look of the bare metal with a good grain through it. it is simple but looks very modern, high tech. these go in with the rest of the equiptment, and are a huge improvement over a plastic bottle.

use dry ferts. i get mine from Orlando's Green Leaf Aquariums.
dose them dry at first with measuring spoons. once you get the hang of this just add together all the powder you add to the tank over 2 weeks time and dissolve it in water. you are now ready for automatic dosing of ferts.

do not be worried about the energy drink leaching into the tank. just rinse out the can first. it is harmless.

it pairs nicely with discus and frog legs.

to be honest, i dont like eating anything that has scales. i like eating things with 4 legs or two wings or even two arms.

i hardly eat fish or shrimp or any seafood at all. it just doesnt taste good to me. and when i think of lobsters i just think of really big bugs that live underwater. shrimp are just smaller bugs.
