diy sponges for filters

im looking to make a sponge for a filter for a shrimp tank. which diy sponges work best for filter covers?

my local stores here dont have them so i figure ill make more on my own. ive been using some white sponge material from hobby lobby but seems to be to tight woven and needs cleaning often to work good. i see some on aquabid but dont wanna pay 5-6.00 for 1 sponge!

Look at the sponges meant to go inside Aquaclear HOB filters. They are very cheap and work well.

If all else fails use storm door screening, thats what I've put on my HOB filters in some of my tanks with livebearers. It seems to work well with the exception of having to clean the intake at least 1-2x a week depending on fish load (scum can build up fast on anything that is covering the filter intake). You can even use pantyhose if you would like. But I have a feeling you want the sponge for the purpose of a grazing material for the shrimp...am I correct?

Sheer Madness!!!

man that is expensive. i think as long as you have some type of tubing into the sponge it should be fine
