DIY background

I am making a DIY background for a paludarium and was wondering if regular craft paper glue is ok to stick the pieces of styrofoam together? My husband suggested using aquarium silicon "just incase" it leeches but I figured that once it's coated and sealed the glue and Styrofoam won't even be in contact with the water right??

We have aquarium silicon somewhere.... I just can't find it and everything is cut up on the floor ready to be glued so I really want to get it done tonight.

I use hot glue for backgroud it dry i lot faster so you dont have to wait for it to set and like you said you seal everything after so its not in contack with the water.

you mean the PVA stuff, like elmer's glue?

I wouldn't. I think it's also not very useful for gluing stryofoam together, since it's hard for it to dry inbetwixt the pieces of styrofoam.

can you just stick it together with toothpicks? I think this is what I usually did, but then I also coated everything with epoxy/sand, so that served to hold everything together when it was completed.
