DIY ancient ruins

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum and to vivariums etc. I'm taking on a large paludarium project and have run into a snag. My tank is going to have some fish and frogs in it, haven't yet decided which ones, and I'm using a false bottom to separate the land from the water. I want to use cuts of PVC to support my false bottom structure and want to create ancient stone pillars out of the PVC pipes. My problem is I don't know what materials would be safe to use, though I know I don't want to try styrofoam. I was thinking of trying some sort of modelling clay... My question is is there a type of modelling clay that's safe for a freshwater tank? Anything I should avoid? what paints are safe to use and do i need to seal it after?

Thank you!
