c02 not dissolving

Ok so I set up a DIY reactor in my forty tall tank today. It's made up of a 20" clear gravel vac and an aquaclear 10 powerhead set to highest setting and at 4-5 BPS. It seems to be working fine as I can see a lot of bubbles swirling in the reactor

my problems are:

i'm not getting as much pearling compared to my previous setup with a ceramic diffuser with exact same BPS (no drop checker at the moment)

After 4 hrs of running c02 the reactor accumulated about 4" of gas pocket and still lots of swirling bubbles under the gas pocket but 2 hrs after the c02 shuts off, I still see about the same amount of gas in the reactor. Has anyone encountered this problem b4? I suspect it may be o2 and not c02 that's lingering in the reactor.

My apology for not showing pics. I don't have access to a camera at the moment.

Any input guys would be appreciated

I would suspect that the flow from the powerhead is not high enough. Most reactors of this sort are working on canister filters. When the powerhead is used it has very little actual flow compared to the canister. The tipoff, to me, is the large bubble collecting in the reactor. The reactor sized to fit the flow will be just about an even contest between the bubbles floating up and the flow forcing them down. What you need is a strong flow that swirls and breaks that large bubble up into small bits that are absorbed into the water and leave the reactor. Change in pearling may be caused by not getting the CO2 actually into the tank for plant use.
Powerheads move lots of water as powerheads but fail when used as pumps. Wrong design for that.

The flow of the powerhead might not be high enough. Also, how is it even set up?
