Need Help With DIY CO2 Reactor

I am going to be making a DIY CO2 reactor for my 29 gallon either tonight or tomorrow. My 29 gallon has less than 1 wpg, but i thought that i would get the co2 thing down before i made one for the 10 gallon that i am setting up.

from my understanding i need a

2 liter bottle - AQUIRED
Check Valve - AQUIRED
Airline Tubing - AQUIRED
Silicone - AQUIRED
Yeast - AQUIRED
Sugar - AQUIRED
Water - AQUIRED - duh

i just need opinions on what mixture to use with the water/yeast/sugar and how to inject it into my tank.

i have a power filter, and i heard that these were a good place to put them, but i don't know how i would go about doing that.

thanks.

add sugar (2 cups) and water and a half tsp of yeast in bottle
put the tubing through the cap. seal with silicone. add check valve here
put tubing in tank, and let bubbles go into intake of filter.

^^ What Mark said.

Also, sometimes a bit of baking soda (1 tsp) and protein drink mix (1-2 tsp) can make the mix last longer. When I use these, I use less sugar (1 cup).

A juice bottle, the more rigid ones with the wide caps and the wider bases, tend to work well. Do you like Gatoraid? I like these better than a pop bottle 2 liter, because they don't fall over as easily.

ok, i see. i have some gatoraide bottles, maybe i will use one of each just to start and see which one works better.

so should i just put the tubing on the intake of my filter, or just put it under it and let it suck up the bubbles.

and how will i know when the co2 runs out? will it just stop producing bubbles?

thanks.

Recipe I used:

2cups sugar
1/4 tsp yeast
1/2 tsp baking soda

It seemed to last 2 1/2 - 3 weeks, with slow /no production getting to the end of 3rd week. So I'd replace 2 (I ran 4 total) each week, giving each set 2wks of production.

What type of filter do you have?
Either way should work, as long as you are getting the bubbles into the intake, for increased diffusion.

ok, i will try that recipie.

i have an old whisper power filter. it has a cap on the end of the intake, so would i just put the end of the tubing inside of the endcap or would i put it under it, and just let some of the bubbles get sucked up.

finally, if i only have one gatorade bottle will it be suffecient for like a week, and just have to be replaced more often, or will it not work.

thanks.
