Filter or syringe

Right now I have my diy co2 being diffused directly through my hob filter intake. I also read posts how people use a syringe and cotton, similar to the glass diffusers with the ceramic disc. The filter method seems to be working rather well, my swords are really pearling. Then I read this could damage the impeller over time. I like the filter method because I know its working. Then on the other hand I don't want to shell out extra $ for a new filter later. Is this syringe method effective?

The syringe and cotton seems to be a variation on the air stone. I ran across an article a week ago that discussed many methods of diffusion and tried to rate them. YMMV.

If feeding into the HOB is working for you stick with it. I'd consider it to be as efficient as using a powerhead, but you might lose a little bit when the water re-enters the tank.
