Related Only A Bit
I am refinishing an aquarium stand for a new 120. I am about two weeks behind schedule. I wound up buying my materials on a weekend and my paint store was closed. So, I wound up buying paint at one of the big home improvement stores. Bought the best grade of primer and gloss enable that they had. Spend several hours sanding off the original paint before starting with the primer I bought. Got the primer on and finish sanded that the next day. Was really happy with the result at this point. Started with the first coat of the enamel and found it went on poorly, lots of brush strokes, finally assumed that they would lay down as the paint dried. They got worse and I sanded that down to the primer and tried with a roller. That did not look any better. Bought an additive touted on many DIY internet sites and sanded down a fourth time now using the additive. Poor results again.
Went down at lunch time yesterday to my paint store and bought a quart of their best gloss enamel. Sanded a fifth time last night and then put on a coat of the new paint. Looked this morning and it looked great! Only myself to blame as I had forgotten lessons learned 25 years ago, that you save money and time by getting the best paint available, (skip the home improvement stores for this).
