Sunrise / Sunset timer

I wish I had an answer. But I don't.

I really want a sunrise/sunset timer. Not for my main fluorescent lighting but for some supplemental led lighting. I am thinking I could use xbay Chinese strip light or dollar store leds.

I am following the thread where they are using arduino to control an IR remote. I don't know arduino but I do know how to solder. Now 555s, transistors, diodes, that I understand a little bit better.

Is there an old school way of doing this? I'm thinking solid state but not digital. If that even makes sense.

The other option I saw was wifi. There are apps to control the rgb strips from your phone. Prices were comparable with IR remote setups. Is anyone working with wifi?

You don't need WiFi or IR. If you're dimming cheap LEDs, you can do straight from the arduino. You just use the built in PWM pin.

It's easier to go digital than old school analog.

I really did not want to learn something new. But this arduino thing looks like serious overkill. But low cost overkill. It does everything but program it self.

Do you recommend a site for arduino dummies?

You can always buy a dimming controller

The arduino site is a good reference.

If you want to learn the basics of programming, I wrote a little something

That's exactly what I want. Only, low power and for under $50.

Thanks for the links.

what about a typhon at StevesLED's?? $50ish bucks.. 4 Channel PWM dimming. Add some Meanwell PWM dimmable drives and a power supply.. Hook any strings you design to it (within the driver parameters..)
