You have a limitless supply of 3.2mm low iron glass -- what size tank do you build?

Lucky for me, my employer has the remains of an entire crate of 24"x36" 3.2mm Starphire low iron glass from a project that isn't going to be used.

3.2mm is pretty thin however and really limits the size tank you can build.

If you had this supply of glass -- what size tank would you build?

Looking for some ideas/recommendations as I begin exploring the world of building aquariums.

I also have a good supply of regular 4mm and 6mm... Wish I had some 9/10mm so I could do a 2' cube.

Standard ten gallons are made from 3.2mm glass. I'm sure you could go bigger. I had a fifteen gallon out of 3.2mm.

I should have mentioned in the OP, I want the tank to be rimless.

Yeah 12" cubes are doable with 3.5mm

I think the largest cube you do would be 13", but you might be able to do something like a 12 long. I'm not 100% on the durability of the glass at that length, but if you keep it short you should be okay.

How many sheets 24"x36" 3.2mm Starphire low iron glass do you get in a case?
  • If I had access to that glass, I would ONLY use the Starphire® Glass on the FRONT panel ONLY. I don't see the point on using it on the BACK or the SIDE.

This is what I would recommend creating....
  • 4 gallon = Long
  • 6 gallon = Long
  • 8 gallon = Long
  • 10 gallon = Long

Good luck & post pictures of your progress.

Are you planning on attending the plant swap? (See the mass sub-forum) I'd be happy to take some off your hands!

I'm only a couple towns over. I may have to reconsider designing a couple of tank ideas I had. Some shallow tanks may be in order.

I usually feel kind of guilty using the quick reply... my replies are rarely quick.
