Glass tops and hood suggestions

Hello again,

I am looking to either make my own glass tops for my two tanks or buy pre made ones.

What I am wanting to know is if I bought pre made ones what are the dimension I would need to buy for the pre-made ones.

Here are the inside diameters of my two tanks:

6' Length x 2' Wide x 1/4" Thick or 3/16"

16 3/4" Wide x 46 11/16" Length x 1/4" Thick or 3/16"

also I am wondering what material(s) I could use for the inside of my hood that will reflect the light as well as help keep the wood from collecting moisture
( pls not tinfoil suggestions ) Looking for something that is fairly ridged and cheap and easy to work with when gluing it to the wood.

I'm in the process of building my own tank, stand, and canopy. I'll be using aluminum sheeting from my local Home Depot to construct the reflectors. http://www.homedepot.com/p/MD-Buildi...1#.UgAIXJLvvZw
As for the glass tops, have you thought about using plexiglass instead? You can easily attach handles or hinges to plexi. It is also lighter and has better light transmission than glass. But if you're set on glass then I would head to lowes (my local lowes custom cuts glass up to 3/8" thick) and cut say, 3 pieces for the 6' tank. I'd build a frame to sit along the edges of the tank and find some way to attach the glass to the frame in a hinged manner or make "notches" where you could slide the glass into place. Or, hey, make 3 individual "picture frames" and use them as the top. Idk, lol, just stuff off the top of my head.

I'd avoid plexiglass, the stuff can warp/sag pretty bad.

To get pieces thick enough that they wouldn't warp, glass would be cheaper, and probably lighter as well.

Exactly I checked all this out before, which is why I am sticking with glass.

with having to buy new glass and pay for it to get cut and buy the plactic pieces for the smaller tank it would cost almost about the same as buying the tops,( which is why I asked what size tops I should buy for the tanks ) it don't work out to be much cheaper unless i can get my hands on glass and just pay for getting it cut.

I have a T5 HO fixture that I want to mount on the hood but also want something glued to the inside of the hood to help reflect the light, and to help keep the wood moisture free.

I can post pics of my light fixture and tank latter on if it helps

EDIT:

on second thought here are some pics

When I modified the hood that came with my 29G tank I got the glass at ACE hardware. Have you checked out their prices?
