DIY ADA Cabinet

Hi all,

Im trying to make ADA cabinet here but I've never seen one in flesh.

Can anyone who has one tell me how do you open this cabinet ? Or perhaps take pictures for me ?

This is the cabinet that Im talking about:

Im confused how do I open the door ??

Also, I've seen someone made this cabinet before in this forum, but I cannot find them again. Can someone assist me with the link ??

Thanks very much.

Hi,
I have never seen this type of cabinet but my guess is that they use pocket hinges and the "Push Click" for the latching. These use magnets and a spring, close it and push it "click", then when you want to open it push it again "Click" and the spring pushes it open.

Hmm I think I get what you mean.

When you want to open, you push the door, and it will push out. Then you grab the door by the side and open yeah ??

Does any one have a pictures of them ? I want to see the inside, what do they look like. I want to make one.

Thanks heaps.

Here is a very good place to order the hinges: Blum 165° Zero Clearance Slip-On Hinges - Rockler Woodworking Tools, but I suspect shipping to Australia would be pretty pricey. The hinges are an international design, mostly made in Asia now, so I'm sure they are available there too. My hardware stores all stock the magnetic push to open latches too. The ADA design stands are not at all complicated to make, as long as you are not trying for an exact duplicate, but just the same appearance. Just make a box from 3/4 inch thick plywood or quality MDF, open in front, add the doors using those hinges, sit it on some adjustable height very short legs, and spray paint it with glossy grey enamel.
