DIY Stainless Steel Mesh

Hello fellow members, i know this hobby is an expensive one and we are all trying to save a few dollars here and there. i ran into this great video for learning how to make stainless steel mesh for our filters and i wanted to share this. i will be ordering some supplies from the mesh company and also fleabay cost should be minimal $25-$30 or so for 12" ancor marine grade shrink wrap and 3x A3 sized mesh in different sizes that can be used for attaching moss, etc.

enjoy.

Pat

creekbottom, i've spent some time looking for the pieces as well, the cheapest i've found including shipping to canada for the mesh is from www.themeshcompany.com you can get 3 X A3 sized mesh in different sizes which is great for other applications as well. i am using the smallest mesh for the filter because i will be keeping shrimps, but if you are not you can use the medium sized mesh which won't plug up as easy and the larger mesh i will be using for attaching moss to rocks, etc.

as for the shrink tube search "ancor marine shrink tubing" on fleabay and you will get some options. $6 for 12" ft.

if you find cheaper places, post it up.

this is great if you have more than one filter and different sizes for each, going to save me some $$$ and give me the flexibility to make the filter for different applications.

I am glad you enjoy this, that's the main reason i posted it up so i can help other members on this forum, just like how a lot of the members have helped me

I found electrontubestore.com They are in Quebec but don't have a great selection of T316 mesh.

The tubing - I found the same one on e bay lol.

It took a bit of reading to understand mesh sizes and what I might use, thank goodness for wikipedia!

In the US, you can get everything you need from McMaster-Carr.
