nano lighting help!

ive got this pretty cool tank that i keep a betta in. i want to plant it with mostly riccia and maybe a couple stem plants from my other tanks. anythings better than pink gravel and a fake plant. (except maybe my bettas previous tank which is shown to the left there)

my biggest problem is the lighting. the space i have under the hood is very very small. heres a picture:

any ideas?

i spoke to the guy from ahsupply and he cant help me. his bulbs/kits wont fit in the space i have there.

thanks for the quick response!

the smallest light on that page is 16.5" long. the tanks footprint is an 8x8" square so that really wont fit. i'd rather try to retrofit the hood myself anyway because it'll probably be a little cheaper. i guess i should've mentioned something about the tanks dimentions. its something like 8x8x20" deep and it hold around 2.5-3 gallons. i dont know the exact numbers because i bought it at a garage sale for $5 and i dont have it in front of me right now.

for an 8" x 8" tank, you should try the coralife mini aqualight. it's only 9" and it's 18 watts. gives you some very hardcore high light action.

that is, if you want to forgo the hood.

if not... maybe burn a candle under there...

You could try to retrofit two G23 socket 11W CF bulbs there. With the socket 'holder' (me and my terminology! ) they would be about 9'' long. Or use two Lival (or similar - don't know if these are available near you) reading lamps with those bulbs. They have their own reflectors in them.

Lival Asymmetria
Lival Continent
Lival Intact

i bought a dual PC worklight at walmart for a couple bucks and tore it all apart, retroed it into a hood and used some roofing flashing as reflectors. works well, but i need to go up to the 26 watter
