Too much CO2?

I just counted and my airstone (attached to my DIY c02) gives off a pretty small bubble, about the size of a BB 159 (a little bit more probably) bubbles a minute! I couldn't even count as fast as the bubbles were going off. Is this too much? Or does the small size of the bubbles make it okay?

Bubble count means nothing. And counting bubbles from an airstone adds another layer of nothing to it.

What is the CO2 level in the tank?

Maisure pH (acidity) and kH (carbonate conc.) and compare here: http://www.tropica.com/article.asp?t...aristic&id=418

Be within range of the green is good.

Well then you have really put the cart before the horse. CO2 injection is not recommended till you know the kH of your water. And a pH test kit is pretty much a common item for most any aquarium.

Aquarium Pharmaceuticals has pretty good test kits - a pH kit and a GH/KH kit. I got mine at the local fish store, but I could have done so at Petsmart I think.
