Hagen CO2 not working?

Quick question. I recently bought another Hagen CO2 system for my newly established 10. Anyway, sometimes the included packets of yeast do not seem to work. Sometimes they just never take off and produce CO2. Any explanations? My coke bottle CO2 always worked better for some reason.

hot water or dead yeast

yeast only lasts about 2 months in the package.

Get regular bread yeast, use 1/8 teaspoon, plus 1 teaspoon of baking soda.

I've only used their packets ones. They seemed to work.

After I've run out of them, just starting using the usual yeast/sugar.

For a while there, I was only getting one or two uses out of a Fleischman's packet of active dry yeast. I wasted a great deal of sugar, and the tank was without CO2 for extra days. I started putting the freshly opened packet in plastic in the freezer, and it seems to be lasting longer.
