HOB mod

I had a thought today... my HOB filter has been gurgling like mad on my 20H, so I decided that I'd find a way to cut down on the surface agitation (loud enough to be heard 2 rooms over. just doesn't sit low enough on the tank to raise the water level high enough. poor design) the tank has pressurized CO2, and I feel that a lot of it is being wasted, as well as the filter being a bit too strong for the crypts beneath the outflow.

I took some very coarse sponge (that's a prefilter for a pond pump that's broken), looped some fishing line through it and wrapped it around the back of the HOB, making a biowheel-looking attachment to the front of the outflow. I know that this isn't a perfect fix, as the water is still aerated as it hits the sponge, but the impact is greatly reduced, and the water movement in the tank is much more suitable. As a little bonus, it should be a pretty nice place for aerobic bacteria to colonize, giving me a little backup if ammonia levels creep up from one disaster or another. I'll be sure to add pics very soon.
