DIY CO2 diffusing with small HOB?

Hello
First post, thanks for all the great info. Currently I have a 55 gallon lightly planted fresh water tank with a small stock and using a FluVal 405 for filtration. Lately I've had brown algae problems, that I finally related to me putting in a large airstone and bubbler. So I have the bubbler off now and I hope I can get the algae under control. Which leads me to here...

If/when the BA subsides I wanted to setup a diy CO2 and start dosing liquid ferts along with the root tabs I already do. I've been wondering how to cheaply diffuse the co2 and how to have it only on with the lights.

Can I run the co2 hose into the back of a cheap hob filter I have laying around and only have the filter run on the light timer? Would this cause any huge problems?

So the setup would be 2 liter DIY>hose>check valve>straight into the back of the Aquatech 10-20 HOB with no media in it with the filter on a timer with my light?

Thanks!

I think you want to run the CO2 into the intake so the impeller breaks up the CO2 bubbles. Some people just rubber band the CO2 tube with a chopstick right near the intake. To make it look better, you could drill a small hole, push the CO2 tube there so it takes the bubbles right up to the impeller.

Thanks! I will do that.

How many 2 liter soda bottles should I be doing for a 55 gallon? Two?
