DIY CO2 for 50 gallons, Do we need baking soda?

I was wondering how many bottles do need for a 50 gallons tank. Is 1 of 2 litters bottle enough? or do I need 2 of them?

I have also seen some ingredients, some people has baking soda, some people dont. Which is better?

Thank you.

From my experience baking soda seems to make the DIY CO2 bottles produce usable CO2 longer. It is a cheap addition, and well worth it.

I used a 4 liter bottle on my 45 gallon tank, and it worked very well. It was a cranberry juice bottle - one with a white plastic handle.

I use three 3L bottles on a 36g. 2c sugar, 1/2tsp yeast, warm water. Diffused through 2 powerheads placed under two HOB filter.

I don't add baking soda, not for any particular reason; I just don't.
