power head

I want to add a power head to my tank to increase circulation. The duckweek keeps on clogging it up. What kind of prefilters are people making/using to get around this?

Thanks

A cheap solution: Buy an Aqua Clear sponge of the appropriate size(for my smaller power heads I use an AC20 sponge) and cut a slit into it. Slide the intake of the powerhead into the slit and if needed secure with a zip tie.

I've also seen people use pantyhose as a pre-filter but I believe that it clogs faster than the sponge.

What he said

Like Postal Penguin says use the aqua sponge. I went a step further and used 30% of a water bottle, jammed the sponge into it, and attached it and CO2 line into pwrhead's intake. CO2 might corrode impeller this way so I'm considering using venturi effect or outflow instead.

Sorry for the thread derail, but doesn't the venturi effect take away the output flow of the power head since the flow is directed back into the chamber?

You can pick up fluval sponge prefilters at petsmart/co.

Nothing Ventured. Nothing Gained.

I actually want to reduce output further, it's knocking aponogeton and red tiger leaves around, but neither have algae
