DIY A H Supply 2x55 Canopy (55G)

Went to home depot and purchased a 1x4x7', 1x6x7', 1x12x5', and a 1x2x2'. All poplar. Also in the mix were #16 1-1/4" finishing nails, waterproof wood glue, Cherrywood stain/poly, and hinges. I did splurge though, and got 2 7' lenghts of 3/4" molding that looked pretty slick. Total cost was a little under $60, and about 2 1/2 hours of my time today.

I am going to stain and seal it tomarrow. Lights will be here wednesday.

After the lights are installed under the hood, I will enclose the bottom half of the tank, and use the same type of molding. I think it will look pretty slick when I'm done. I took a few pics of it, but my camera is a pretty cheap one, an doesn,t do it much justice.

Nice looking canopy Mark.
I made one once that was hinged at the top and found that the tank was too dark to work in because the lights hit me in the eyes so I designed the next one to hinge on the front panel leaving the tank lit so I could see in it while working.
Very nice looking though ! You landscapers can multi-task...

Thanks Buck!! I wasn't gonna tell anyboby, but I made a $12.00 mistake! The front 1x6 was suppose to be cut at 49 3/4". I measured twice, but cut it at 48 3/4" anyways. Had to run to true value an get another 5 fter.

Never said I was a carpenter!!

Wish I would have thought of that!! Guess I'll have to get a light stand...

Thats the problem with trying to be precise and measuring from the 1" mark on the ruler... we sometimes forget to add the inch back... LOL
