sumps and planted tanks

So i was thinking of doing a sump and just put my current filter on that so i can get the heaters and every thing else out of my tank. any suggestions on how to use a sump without gassing of all of my co2.

Eliminate as much splash in the flow path as possible. Falling / gurgling through the drains and sump proper. Then cover the sump. I had glass cut to create a lid and I'm very happy with the results.
