Replace suction cup with magnets

The drop checker in my aquarium would keep getting detached. So I decided to do a mod using epoxy covered neodymium disk magnets.

I cut most of the suction cup, leaving the place it attaches to the checker and a little rim. I glued it with epoxy glue to one magnet. Clamping them together (without deforming the silicone) for 30 minutes.

The only surprise was that I wasnít able to smoothly slide the checker down in the aquarium, it would jerk and rotate. So I had to put my hand in the aquarium.

Also, be careful the magnets are strong and with fly to each other with force. The aquarium glass lessens the attraction enough that there is no danger once they are on different sides, I believe.

Great idea cutting away the old suction cup to make an attachment point! Neodymium magnets are no joke, they're SO strong. I have some frag racks that use them and was very surprised how strong those little things are. My outer ones have a felt pad to protect from scratching glass. I would definitely recommend placing the inside part manually, then putting the outside magnet against the glass 8-10 inches away and sliding it in place. Once they're stuck, sliding them around together may cause scratches
