Rimless tank

Good day, everyone. I am planning to make a rimless tank with the dimensions of L30xW24xH24". Will it be safe if I use 1/2 inch thick glass? Thanks!

Probably not. Height really matters with these tanks. If you look online you will find people building longer tanks but with the same height out of half inch glass. However reading reviews of those tanks after 5 years there is a lot of failure at the seams. If you cut it down to 18 inches high you stand a better chance.

What silicone are you planning to use? Also have you priced out the glass yet? When I was pricing out a tank build the glass prices ended the process. It was as expensive or more to buy the glass than it was to buy a finished rimless tank.

1/2" should be enough for 24" tall. Marineland makes a a couple 24" tall rimless tanks that are either 8 or 10mm in thickness, so well under 1/2".

If you do a google search for "aquarium glass thickness calculator" you'll come up with loads of sites that will show you what thickness to use depending on your other dimensions, bracing etc. Most of them have you enter a "safety factor". As Minorhero said it's usually more expensive to build than buy.
