Easy Automated Lighting Using Raspberry Pi

I have been confused by the myriad automation projects, full of technical gobbledyguck, and reading the comments of normal people interested in doing such a project, but finding it too difficult.

This free open source project, written by a professional application developer, gives great attention to simple, easy, step by step instructions to get from point zero to point hero.

There is nothing new or revolutionary about this project except that it is well built with the intention of making it easy to reproduce by anyone with an interest. It can also be a good example for hacksters to get some ideas.

Yea but still the unfortunate catch..

I prefer not to go back to DOS batch file like programming..

until a SIMPLE GUI is built ..and secure simple wireless....these have a tendency to go nowhere....
Just initial thoughts..

point isn't to "throw" stuff in but have one designed complete..or at least 70% complete..
and done by programmers who aren't just hacks..
Yea I know, asking a lot..for nothing..

Just a simple program like Radions do..w/ a few tweaks..
Guess it's not as easy as it looks.. Maybe it's a matter of discipline. you know limit th build..for awhile instead of a swiss army spaghetti code mess.
Or trying to shoe horn complex into limited hardware.. like Aduino..

Design by committee doesn't seem to work well though IF each was dedicated to one task.. might work well..

PERSONAL opinion.. no more or less..

I agree with everything you guys have said, but can you find a simpler, and as complete of a solution to automated IR control that described in my wiki? There are always an infinite number of improvements to any system, but one has to draw a cost / benefit line somewhere, and the only benefit to me is just trying to do something as best I can, for my own edification.

I barely think this sort of project is worth it except 1) I live in a house with bunch of Raspberry Pis, 2) my Satellite lamp doesn't have an around the clock program, and 3) I don't like the way my Vivagrow program stays lit all night. Now I'm happy with the way my lights function, and I can put them in my bedroom, since my wife doesn't want them on the 1st floor.

Cheers.
