Help with paintball co2 system

Hello All... Im in the process of setting up a co2 system for my tank and ran into problem right off. I bought a paintball tank, paintball tank CGA320 adapter and a "DoubleSun Hydroponics Aquarium CO2 Regulator Made of Brass with Bubble Counter Check Valve" from Amazon. The problem is the outlet of the co2 tank is straight up instead of on the side. So if I were to screw the regulator assembly on as is, the whole regulator would be on its side. .... So questions are:

#1 : Can the regulator assembly be safely used on its side instead of straight up? I know the tank must be upright.

#2: If the regulator is allowed to be sideways I would have to unscrew the bubble counter and attach my hose there. However , does the bubble counter act as the check valve ?

#3: Is there a simple (cheep) piece of hardware that will make it so I can screw the assembly on properly ,horizontally? A right angle connector? Money is an issue so hopefully its cheep. (the big ole valves Ive seen on regular tanks look expensive and cant find were to buy)

Thanks in advance for any recommendations

Update:
After going to an AirGas store I was told the regulator could be used on its side and no problem connecting tube to bubble counter as it is with no water in it. I dont need the bubble counter as I use a "ladder" system I got with a diy kit awhile back. I can see the bubbles as they come out and climb the ladder... System up and running well. I was amazed how low my co2 levels actually were (calculating from Ph and KH readings). All seems to be working well and Im hoping the Brown Algae finally goes away. Fingers crossed
