HID lighting?

This isn't a project I plan to do but it is so cheap now. It used to cost $300-500 to put in your car, now it can be had for very cheap. For those who don't know what I am talking about, they are the whitish lights that you would see on luxery cars only about 10 years ago, now many cars have them.

This places has great reviews and many people have been running their ballasts and bulbs for years with no trouble, I am sure there are others but I trust them enough to run in my car, here is the kit I have- http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/Ap...Raptor-HID-Kit

I don't know how this compares to wattage wise, or if it is feasible, maybe it's way too much light but I was just wondering. Two great things about HID is that the bulbs come in many colors, and they are for automotive purposes so most are sealed so moisture isn't a huge issue (though you probably don't want to submerge a ballast for example). They are also very simple in terms of componets as they are a kit. They are only 12 volts though.

I figure you could either make a DIY reflector, or take a headlight lens and use that as a reflector.

I am not planning on doing it, I just thought it could be interesting.

Bulb life may not be great but bulbs are cheap now, and the kits are not expensive. A reflector is not hard to come by, just get a broken headlight and use the reflector, so many cars use a 9006 light that it would be super easy to source the parts for $10-20.

Anyway, I am not planning to do it but I just hadn't seen it come up, thought it would be an interesting alternative. I know LED's are all the rage and may cost the same, this would be immensely easier to do though.
