How about this?

My plants in my tank get no sunlight and only have the standard leds that came in the kit. Until I can find a hood and lights that are better, do you think this will help any? It's a plant light in a lamp shinning into the aquarium

Yep it will help keep them alive and growing but plants will bend to it..

Any additional light will help some. All of your plants will start growing towards that light though, and you'll possibly develop some lovely algae on the glass there. For a temporary solution, like very temporary, I don't see any problem doing this.

Are you dead set on having a hood? Or would a glass cover also serve your needs? You could do a glass cover and a Fluval 3.0. Dunno what your budget is.

No, I prefer no hood, but I have a betta and I'm afraid he'll jump out, I am looking for a glass top and lights, this is just a temp solution. I think finding a glass top for my tank is going to be difficult I wish I wouldn't have got the kit and just bought a tank. Ivr already replaced the filter lol

You can buy single pane glass at your local Lowes, Home Depot, or Orchard supply and have it cut to the size you need for your tank. Just make sure to get some sand paper also and sand down the edges of the glass so you don't cut yourself handling it.

When I setup my tank a year ago or so I ran a painters light with a hundred watt bulb in it shining through the side glass for about a month. It worked fine.
