DIY Powerhead Filter For Paludarium?
I'm preparing to build a paludarium with a 35 gal hex. I am not a fan of canister filters, and I don't intend on having more than 15 gallons for this project. I'm planning on making a false background using eggcrate to elevate it above the water level, and then using styrofoam to make the background. The water will be able to go behind the false background, but it will be hidden from viewer's eyes. I am trying to figure out a good way to make a filter system, as well as a waterfall.
This is what I've been considering: Behind the background, using a powerhead attached to tubing to pull in water, then vertically connected to a 2 liter pop bottle which has filter media (carbon, foam/mesh, and bioballs) in it, and once the water is pushed through the media, more tubing will carry the water to my waterfall, where it will run down the front of the background and back into the water.
Would something like this work?
