DIY canopy with closed fixture inside...

http://www.aquariumadvice.com/forums...sh-112763.html

The link is to another forum, hope that's okay to post.

I plan on putting a catalina fixture under the canopy, similar to the Nova Satelitte pictured in that thread, but it'd be much shorter. I'm just trying to see if that's a good design or not.
Would a design similar to that look good on a 75? The light would be up a little higher maybe another inch. It would also have 2 fans as this canopy does.

I'm not a fan of the canopies personally, I'd rather just see the light sitting there. But the design looks good, if you like it do it!

I also don't like how cannopies are to big. They look bulky and make the tank look small. I wish I can design one that didn't look huge. So why do you want a canopy?

This canopy isn't going to be that "too big" look. I'm only talking about having a 6-7" canopy. With the furniture in the rest of the house being semi-formal or antiques I would like the 75 to be a "formal" piece as well.
I don't quite understand why the design he did had the hing on the back. I plan to leave that part half open for better ventilation. This canopy should only cost me about 60$ including the fans.

I'd say if you can build it and think it will look good then go for it! Those Catalina aquarium lights are nice. I talked to the owner in person, solid products at great prices

Yup, I'm looking at the silver 4X54 Watt fixture. I wish I could afford the retrofit, but I don't think it's going to happen unfortunately. I'll put a bracket like the guy did in the link i posted first for the light to rest on. Hopefully this thing doesn't warp as others have. I'm not completely sure how I'm going to seal it as of yet either.
