DIY UV Possible?

I'm having issues with recurring green water and am looking for a quick solution. I really want to get a UV unit, but cant part with the money. I got to thinking, and I was wondering if a UV LED would do the job? A 1 watt UV LED on superbrightleds.com runs about 6 bucks. Maybe I could rig up a PVC housing for it..

Is this possible? Thoughts and suggestions are welcome.

You'd need to make the LED and the electricals water proof. Usually easier to buy a UV unit. And those UV LED is the wrong wavelength for killing stuff. It's more for black light stuff.

You need germicidal UV bulbs.

And so the plan is killed. Seems as though that spectrum of LED isn't quite up for sale for the average buyer.

why is the dream killed? the UVC led diodes are only $300

...check eBay for an off brand one...theyre significantly cheaper...couldnt tell you about quality tho

it is IMPOSSIBLE to find 1 person who regrets going pressurized

if you do it right, you can spend a lot of money in this hobby...of course, if you do it wrong - you'll spend A LOT more

Buy a "green killing machine" for cheap. Petsmart has them too.
