Filter Pads

Hey guys,

So I have an Eheim Pro 4+ 600 (version 2275) running on my main 55 gal tank. Very lightly planted.
10 espei 1/2"
10 green neons 1/2"
10 emperor tetras 3/4"
8 Panda corydoras 1"
So you can see they're fairly small waste producers.
Anyways, I want to DIY pre filters and fine filters to avoid paying so much for replacements but don't want to mess up the flow.
I'm tossed between the 50micron and 100micron. Wanted to see others thoughts on this, which they use and how often they change them. Also whether they simply toss them out or clean/reuse.

Thanks guys.

Adam

it makes sense to me. no difference between DIY and branded pre cut ones. Filters out the stuff in the water.

But will the 50 micron become a nuisance bc of more frequent cleaning/replacements. I don't want to clog up my canister. But I do want to stop the small debris floating around.
Which to buy 50 or 100. Smh eh

in my experience it is a pain to clean out the filter often. I threw my polishing pads in the trash. i just have rough filtering in my filter now. I don't notice anything different except the fish poop that used to clog up the polishing pad is prob in my tank now, but thats ok because the plants are feeding off that anyways.
akd200 and akd200 like this.

I have used the batting that is available from Walmart and/or hobby stores for years since the idea was given to me.

Cleans the water just as quickly as the ones sold by the LFS or from any online distributors.

Sorry I cannot tell you what micron size it is but it works just fine and works out at about 10% of the cost.

Take only pictures, leave only footprints.

Sounds good to me, can you please post a link to the particular batting you have bought from Walmart.
Thanks everyone.

If you go to your local walmart you can find it in the quilt area. Also are you from Canada or the US? Because those a the the only links i know of.

USA NYC,
Side bar, I'm having an issue with my shrimps, they keep sneaking their way into my Eheim skimmer. I was looking all day for them and when I did my cleaning they all stared up at me and went skydiving into the tank. They keep doing it once I'm away.
I read online that a fish net cut and wrapped around the top should do it. I was wondering will "medical gauze sponges" work bc I have a ton of them. Or shall I use a fish net.

Adam

Here's what I'm talking about.
