Which foam base for background

I'm planning on making a background out of foam, maybe covered with expanding foam in places, and covered in concrete. Most builds I've seen use the pink insulating boards, but I'm trying to save all of the money I can and I have a lot of foam from boxes, like that that surrounded my TV for example.

Can I use any foam as a base or is there a particular reason people use the pink boards? Does it help that much of this will not be submerged?

I have done this and it won't matter the type of foam you use the difference is the density. I used the blue foam because of its smoother and stronger properties for the back portion that will go to the glass and glued the white foam to the front because it easier to shape into rock type formations. You can see the build here. https://www.plantedtank.net/forums/20...uild-test.html
