Question On Custom Build
I've been a lurker for many many months and can't believe I haven't even made a dent in reading all of the information that can be found here. Great people on this forum!
Anyway, I am in the process of planning out a new cage for my anole lizard who is pushing four years old. He's becoming an old man quick and deserves a proper setup (I got him for free on a certain local website and he's probably not seen a real plant since he was captured). Of course I can't let all the ground level area go to waste so I'm making a mixed species tank which will include my little old man and a fish pond. He won't bother the fish and the fish won't bother him. I'm researching as much as possible but I still have questions. I was hoping you guys could help a bit as the water feature is my biggest worry.
Below is one of several mock ups I've done to narrow down what I'm looking to build. The cage is 36"Lx24"Dx36"H. Here are my questions.
1. Will I have to worry about the tank being front heavy seeing as the majority of the water will be towards the front? The land substrate won't be nearly as heavy as all that water and the sand substrate.
2. I'm hoping that 1/4" glass on the sides and 1/2" glass on the bottom will be more than up to the task of holding up. Despite the height of the cage over all, will 1/4" be strong enough for a water feature roughly 36"Lx24"Dx12"H? Or would it be safer to go with 3/8"?
3. I wasn't planning on bracing due to the low profile of the tank. Do you think this is a mistake?
Thank you for any advice.
Every night I tell myself I need only one fish tank... Why do I lie to myself?
