Protection for painted background?

I just finished putting on four layers of black acrylic paint to the outside back of an aquarium, letting each layer dry for 12 hrs first.

My question is: Do I need to add a layer of varnish or anything like that to protect it? or I can just leave it as is?

Thanks!

It should hold up fine, however if you have items that hang on the back and could possibly scratch the paint then I'd add some layer of protection.
