First time dosing Co2. Would like some help

I work at a Local Exotic Pet Store and my boss gave me this contraption to start dosing co2 in my 20L planted tank. I did a test run yesterday and dosed 1bps for about 6 hours. I've read that running co2 at night can cause a big drop in pH and could ultimately kill the fish you have in there, so I'm wondering how long I should run my co2 for and what my bubble rate should be. I've read that it can be dependent on my kH. I plan on testing my water once I go in to work in an hour so I'll have that info later on today, should it be necessary. This is my first go at a planted tank and at trying co2 so I want to make sure I do it as right as possible the first time! Thanks in advcance for the help!

That setup looks incomplete; the "regulator" may or may not just be an on/off valve, which would not be particularly well suited for our purposes. Additionally, there appears to be no needle valve to finely control the flow of CO2.

Most people do shut off their CO2 at night, to save CO2. This is because plants do not photosynthesize in the absence of light. In order to automate CO2, a solenoid is required.

The pH drop that is associated with CO2 injection is not particularly harmful to livestock; even during the day, the pH values can drop a full point with no harm.

Finally, bubble rate is not a good method to determine how much CO2 is effectively being dissolved into the water column. It only really serves as a quick visual indicator that CO2 is flowing.
