2L bottle question for making co2

when first making the co2 bottle and waiting for it to start making co2 consistently, should you put a secure top on it, or should you allow it to breathe and let the co2 to rise out of the bottle? I would figure leaving a top on it would eventually make it explode but maybe not for only 12-24 hours.

Don't cap it. It will eventually explode...I've experienced it first hand..except the container was glass.

Where is the hole at the top? Don't you have tubing going to the cap?

yes, but i keep a seperate cap with no hole by for when I shake it up every few days. i meant while I let a freshly made batch sit over night waiting to replace the old ones already in the tank.

dont cap it! it probably wont do any harm if your tank has no CO2 injected into it for about 1-2hrs...i havent had any problems switching mixtures...i just take the old one off and then attach the new batch after i make it and i havent had any problems

I always ran two bottles staggered, that way one was always going strong. But really all you need to do is get an extra bottle and start the mix, wait about 6 hours and plug it in.

I did read something, I think it was in APG, about the yeast cells using up the oxygen in the empty space in the bottle before it starts cranking up CO2 and how opening the bottle once everything has started can slow down production because the yeast cells will use the air first, or something like that, I'll go try and find the article again so I know what I'm talking about.

I set the cap loosely on top of the bottle.
