take your whole setup and stick it in a bucket/tub full of water and check for a leak. if it ever takes more than a couple hours to have a constant flow its a leak in the system.

For future reference, I have found that a ratio of 2 cups sugar and 1/4 to 1/2 a teaspoon of yeast is better, as it will produce less of a CO2 "burp" right at the beginning (i.e. with your current ratios, you will have lots of CO2, but only for a short period of time).

DIY CO2 should start producing gas consistently within 24-48 hours. Given what you described, you either have a leak somewhere, or you killed your yeast before adding it to the sugar mixture (i.e. perhaps you used too warm water?)

Also something i have trouble with is room temp. I'm a college student so my palce is usually in the lower 60's and the yest is much less active at this temp.

Yeast will grow a lot slower at that low temperature.

Put the generator on top of the light fixture over the tank.
When light comes on, the heat will warm up the yeast mixture. When lights go off the yeast mixture will cool. Not a really precise timer, but close enough!

Also, it is a conversation piece when friends ask about it.
