dimming E-series

I have a 48" ecoxotic on a planted 48" tank which is 16" deep; I was getting algae (no injected CO2) so I got advice to dim to about 70% on all channels and switch to Sunlight instead of Full Spectrum.
1. Would this mean to set white and rgb all at 70?
2. When I try to adjust the levels the light keeps going back to the timer before I finish so I have to change very fast and am not sure the settings stayed where I set them. Am I doing something wrong?
3. When I do press daylight and hold to 'set' my timing seems to get messed up so the lights do not dim and shut off when set so I have to hit the resume. I think this then resets the light setting as well?

I liked this light initially, but this has been frustrating. Any help would be much appreciated.
