Aquatic Magic

Just made my first purchase from these guys, located in Singapore/Malaysia. I had some doubt at first (will the plants really arrive?, how can they be tracked from Singapore?, what shape will they be in?), but I read good comments about them on various forums. My order of 3 types of java fern, a tiger lotus bulb, and a bolbitis fern all arrived in great shape. Packed very securely. Tracking was "thin" of course: a confirmation email and a tracking number to a Singapore website which told me "yep, they put em in the mail, destination JFK, New York. Well they arrived in the minimum time possible (6 days) and were large and nice. I treated them with alum and potassium permanganate to avoid any unwanteds. I got a personalized note affirming that if there was any problem, just contact for replacement and reshipment. If you combine shipping and pick some free shipping items, the cost is as good as buying stateside. You can find them on ebay, aquabid, or at their own website. I like their philosophy: quality plants at a decent price, working to support low-income aquafarmers in the far east.

I've used them many times even with the slower shipping across Canada and have never had an issue. Even when there was a shipping error, they made it good with no hassles. Never lost a plant or bulb either, some of them have been growing and spreading for 2 years.

It's a mixed bag. I think they are well intentioned, but sometimes sell useless stuff like non aquatic mosses.

I've gotten a few things from them that were either cheaper or I couldn't find anywhere else. Shipping did take a little longer, but I didn't have any complaints.

I bought one of those mosses from them that everyone debated about whether or not is a truly aquatic moss... so far it's done OK in my 10gal shrimp tank for over a month. Not growing, but not dying, so we'll see.

"It's a mixed bag. I think they are well intentioned, but sometimes sell useless stuff like non aquatic mosses".

It's one of those 'do your research' things that we all should do before purchasing anything sight unseen. I bought a non-aquatic moss just for the halibut but it is actually doing fine submersed and looking very cool. You can get non-aquatic plants in LFS as well and most times the staff doesn't know the difference either.
