if you are having pains in your chest... go to the emergency room or have someone take you there. You could be having a heart attack. If your health is not a serious enough reason for you to quit smoking... then I don't know what will.

Go see a doctor. Chest pains aren't something you can just walk off or ignore.

if you want to quit smoking, just stop.
it may be easier said than done, but ultimately you know that you cannot name one good thing that comes from it. if you want to quit, forget the pills/patches and hypnotists. just dont do it anymore. dont buy any more cigs and get rid of lighters/ ashtrays. put them away somewhere. and then just dont smoke, no matter what. if you thouroughly follow this method it will not fail.

do not ignore chest pains like that.. has anyone in your family ever had a heart attack? do you eat healthy? are you physically active?

so GO to the doctor. they will perform tests and go from there.

otherwise you may die!
it is that serious.

Try Chantex if you can get it, I know three guys that quit with that. Staying off them is the tricky part, try carrying around a picture of a rotten lung for when you think "just one won't hurt". Good luck.

Perhaps you can find fear in what made you post this thread to begin with. You said you woke up with chest pains and that you want to stop smoking. You even want help ASAP. There must be something that worries you enough to make a post on an aquarium forums, of all things. What was that drive that made you post this thread? Was it the fear of... Fill in the blank here? Only you know the answer to that.

As I'm sure you are already aware of the health hazards and what looms in the future of a smoker. People can only try to scare you so much, but if you're going insist on telling yourself, "Well, I can't see death anyway, therefore, I should not be afraid." Then I don't know how else people are suppose to help you.

The whole point of not smoking is so that you will live long(er) and carry a healthy life. If the reason of an early death or bad health does not "scare" you, then I don't know what will or what the point of trying to stop smoking is going to do for you. Because if you don't fear death or a weak health, then smoking isn't much of a threat to you.

Now, I'm not trying to discourage you from quitting. Because I do want you to quit. Though it's not that easy. We can only try to persuade you but the majority of the work will be done by you. You have to be the one to tell yourself, "No, I will not pick up and smoke that cigar." It's all in your head at this point (if you claim that meds and words don't work). You just have to fight it :-)

Chantix, it supposedly blocks the nicotine receptors. From what I remember they said it made them question why they lit a smoke so they'd put it out immediately. Two guys quit after three days, one after a week or so.

www.chantix.com

There's supposedly a new intravenous shot as well, somewhere in Europe I think.

if you dont fear death because it cannot be seen;
fear ED.

that scares me anyway.
that is a nice reason to stay healthy.
when youre 70 and everyone around you is complaining about back pain and medication and triple bypass surery, viagra and metamucil you can have better things to think about

life is pretty short. i believe people's health declines so rapidly when they get older because of the habits they have and the things they do to their bodies.
take decent care of yourself and you wont have to be miserable when you get old.
