Trying the Planted World

Hi All,

Had a saltwater tank of some size for the last 5 years, but kids killed that with time constraints. Now with things a little more settled I picked up a Lifeguard 14G peninsula for the kitchen Counter for my daughter.

Looking to get some plants for it and various small fish to make it active

Hopefully this goes well and is easier to do.

Already have a RO/DI for easy water.

Welcome to the forum.

Since you already have a solid understanding of water parameters from the marine side - and have RO/DI - you're about 800 steps ahead of the curve.

You should consider starting a tank journal to track your progress.

I gave up saltwater years ago as I was so concerned about the capture of fish (there is more breeding now). I have since had planted tanks and love it! I keep mine simple, low tech, but super high filtration and lots of easy to grow plants. My smallest 10 gallon almost maintains itself. I now have a 2 ten gallons and 2 17 gallons because I wanted a mix of fish which I could not put in just one tank!! I guess I am addicted. I think my favorite fish to watch are the longfin peppered Cory (they have actually had babies). Also in that tank I have a gourami who rules and comes up to me for feeding every am! My style tends to be a schooling fish, one center piece fish and Cory!! Oh, and the shrimp are also fun to watch. Enjoy!! BTW, I tried out controlsoil for the first time and am hooked, super easy cycling and plants grow like crazy.

Fish+Plants thanks you!!
