Just thought I'd introduce myself. I started up my first planted tank a couple weeks ago. So far the plants seem to be doing well. It's a 60 gallon with a fluval 406 and I should have a finnex planted+ 24/7 being delivered today.

It's sparsely planted with 6 plants from petco so I think I may need to add more plants but I really just want to try and keep it as low maintenance as possible. Sand substrate with a few fert. tabs throughout. I have high phosphates but am hoping to mitigate those with large water changes.

I have a 350 gallon pond in my basement for my two yellow belly slider's and a large vivarium for my 9 dendrobates auratus 'highland bronze'.

I've been doing lots of research and thank you in advance for any advice provided.

How about a pic of the tank?
Hopefully those Petco plants are all aquatic..

With the 24/7 fixture you will have basically medium light, good for growing low to medium light plants, assuming no CO2 injection.

Is the tank cycled? Is it stocked?

Welcome -

My advice - Start a tank journal here right away to help us watch your progress...I waited and then had a lot of catch up to do! :-)

Thanks for the responses. Trying to load pictures from my phone so not sure all of them will be posted. Tank has been up and running for around 4 years. Previously, I had peacocks but it was always a battle so I wanted more peaceful fish.

Current stock list is 6 Cory cats, 6 nerite snails, 3 bleeding heart tetras, 3 black phantom tetras, 3 rose line sharks, 1 green phantom pleco and 1 blue Acara.

I've almost always had some sort of diatoms in the sand but it's never been really bad. Phosphates were 10+ppm when I tested today. I'm hoping to get a large water change in tomorrow. Since I sold off my cichlids I haven't been doing much with the tank. My green phantom pleco was enjoying the single life for a while.

Do I need to pull any of these from the sane and attach them to driftwood? Java fern?
