Newbie need help pruning this plant

I'm a total newbie to planted tanks and have received a clipping of this plant from a friend. It has grown very big.

I'm wondering what's the best way to prune it. Do I cut the top off, cut the top and replant it, or maybe thin out each stem? Also, what kind of plant is this?

Thanks for your response.

it is alternanthera reineckii. you could trim off the side shoots to thin out or cut tops off and replant. seems to be pretty healthy. it doesn't like to be moved too often.

Wow never knew that AR would grow this tall if left untrimmed.
