What to do with this aquascape?

Hi! I'm new to aquascaping and recently put together this scape. I'm not satisfied with where it is currently and feel like it looks too "artificial". Any ideas on how to improve this? I'm also not super in love with the big piece of wood on the left side but don't know what else to do with it.

I feel like you need more rocks of the same kind in various sizes scattered around the others to help make it look more real. Good luck!

I used to have the same problem with things looking artificial.

The key is to use a lot of smaller hardscape elements. In nature you see rocks and wood of all different sizes in addition to the substrate. Right now, you have substrate and a few large pieces. You don't have an intermediate layer that builds up the scale of the scape.

Here's two scapes of mine, one where I only relied on plants for the look without smaller hardscape elements, and the other where I decided to really use a lot of smaller pieces as part of the hardscape. You can see the difference that using smaller pieces has made towards the natural look, even despite having significantly fewer plants.
