Petrified wood question

I have a piece of petrified wood/rock I want to recycle as part of a rescape on my 40 gallon.

The rock is about 10 years old and had some moss attached to it when first got it. I broke that tank down and had it out of the water for years before reusing it in a five gallon tank-and the moss started growing again, even though it was out of the water for years and cleaned off.

So what is my best bet to sterilize it so I get rid of the moss spores that I might have missed when I clean it? Soak it in bleach/water mix for a week?

I have a piece of coral from an old tank that was left outside for about eight years and grew a bunch of moss. I put it in a bucket for a couple of months, and then my tank, and some of the moss survived. I can't say how much, since it got partially taken over by java moss. I still have more coral and rocks outside from my old marine tank, so I might try again. That tank was flooded by Irene, which is why the stuff went outside.

Style: Organic potting soil, sand, gravel, wood, plants, moss, snails, shrimp, small fish, dual siestas
Tech : Small tanks, Fluval Plant 3.0 Nano, Top Fin MF10, Eheim Skim 350, Tunze 3161, Neptune Apex EL

Boil it for an hour. Nothing lives through that.
